My Journalism 101

What’s with being a journalist that they are often killed?

Are they law-offenders?
Is killing them a way of punishment?
If so, the government might as well just dissolve this course or discourage people pursuing this field, so as to avoid any element that could go against their way, to save as well the lives of those who wanted to practice objectivity. The way I see it, as long as there are journalist, whom I noticed whose work is only to whistleblow the irregularities they observed upon certain concern in a faction of a nation, a major percentage of those in authorities cannot have their goodnight sleeps.
I observed that this world is not as free as I thought it could be.
I happened to encounter this site of the National Union of the Journalist of the Philippines: http://www.nujp.org/media%20killings%202008.htm
